little animals

This was just sitting in my drafts, apparently never got posted. Consider this your much needed get-you- through-the-week injection of cutesy ... on the road wifi is sparse, hang in there, I'll be full functioning soon, blogwise.

Walla Walla

"And on the way home held your camera like a bible
just wishing so bad that it held some kind of truth

And I stood nervous next to you in the darkroom
you dropped the paper in the water and it all begins to bloom
and they go wild..yeah, they go wild"
-Bright Eyes, Old Soul Song (For The New World Order)

Gah, you know I'm not a quote-y type and generally I think the more you try to sound smart/poignant by using one, the more cliche it seems, but that is one of my all-time favorite songs about photography and it just fit well here. I am rapidly approaching the point where I move the "you are here" sticker on the map down about a thousand miles, and so I am starting to miss this little place, and just had the last meeting of my photo class, and it was just sad, and I thought back to my final reviews for the class (earlier this week) and something I'd said about photography and what it is to me in regards to the fact that no matter what I photograph it has this old nostalgic feeling. I love the sense of intimacy photographs can give you, with a person, with a place, anything. Because you get to hold a fraction of a second forever. A place as it was today will not be the same in ten years. People will change, things will get lost and destroyed. But more than that, you will never feel the same way as you did taking that picture, the way you love, you hate, you fear, you act indifferent, is always changing. And feelings manage to develop themselves onto images too. So this is a bit (some of the printed but not yet posted) of the way I felt about Walla Walla these past few months.

new comic, end of year.

Okay, in honor of the grueling yuck that is finals and packing and saying bye to people and trying to summer-job-hunt from 1000+ miles away (might be having some success here actually, yay) and having everyone else you know that does not go to your college get out earlier than you and then telling you about how excited they are yadda blah, tonight's comic is on the back of a blue book (from last semester, I'm not turning this in). For all of you who know what that is, I'll wait while you collectively groan before I show you, and for those of you who don't, pretty color huh?

Yes, the stress may have eaten up a chunk of my brain. Oh well, not like I was using my ability to rationalize. Goodnight dears.

free comic book day!

Go check out the My Name is Jonah 2011 Free Comic Book Day download, featuring yours truly and a lot of other great artists. And then continue celebrating by reading the comics here and on other sites, pretending that it's not free everyday, so this really is a holiday that isn't shrinking in terms of cultural relevance.

Also, I'm making a free comic book day's resolution (like a new year's one, except I'm five months late on it) to not go so long without posting (I've been a little under the weather)
