Blue Window

This is a little commission piece I did for a place in town recently that I think turned out quite nice. Pretty fun to do, and oh yeah, best part, I get paid in clothes (seriously, if I could just work for records, clothes, and books/zines, I would). So if you're in Walla Walla, check them out!

negatives experiment #479

Okay, so there aren't 478 other posts on here about digital negative manipulation, but I feel the time I spend on it there might as well be, so this is one I did a little bit ago but felt was missing something, until I decided to try adding color in a very subtle way (yes VERY subtle, achieved via layering color gradients under the image at reduced opacity). And now I have a very nice desktop background that feels less cold-weather-despair (yes I am definitely of the stereotype of SoCal expats who want to shrivel up and die if it rains more than two days in a row...but I love snow, so go figure).

And yes, all of those who guessed "from LA+ferris wheel=that's of the Santa Monica Pier ferris wheel", you're right. Oh stereotypes.

this is a call/deserve part II

So this is one I really can't not add post script to. The whole dialogue is a word-for- word transcript of a phone conversation I had with my mom Saturday. I suppose it really feels maybe a bit confusing, and I could have prefaced it better, but that was that moment, from my end, so it seemed really natural to omit context and, in all but one case, my mom's side of the conversation. Also, if you're unfamiliar with the book featured here, BUY IT NOW, as it is fantastic. But please don't go asking for it to be signed just because she did that for some girl on the internet..besides, she's on a booktour right now so you can just meet her in person and ask politely.

proof

So when cataloging my negatives binder during open studios last week, I found this gem of a proof sheet from Italy. It was never fixed or washed, so it took on this lovely process of decay that actually at times looks like I did a light sepia tone on it (another thing, like proof sheets, that I will only do when forced). Here are a few cuts from said sheet.

a friendly reminder

So, I'm a total fangirl for voting... it's just so awesome, we (United States readers) get to be in charge of the direction of our government, and we have a day devoted to that. However, some states' registration deadlines are TODAY. So if you aren't registered, or aren't sure if you are, go to gottaregister.com RIGHT NOW and get yourself set for the big day. I am so pro-vote that I am not even going to mention anything about certain states, props, or candidates. Whatever you believe in, just get registered, get informed, and get to the polls!

in hot water

just a quickie... and a the-tori exclusive (the tumblr folks got something earlier today, so you get this, want everything, subscribe to both.) And no, it won't kill me, I'm careful with it, and I've sustained being electrocuted by one of those stand mixers, so I feel pretty confident that "death by electric kettle" isn't my obit. Oh and the tea mug with the panda faces is real, I get a lot of compliments on it IRL so I'm going to nod to the maker of this supercute cup's etsy store...maybe if you message her she'll make you one, if not, the pandas are on other things.
