from awhile back

As promised here are some pictures, one series in a ton (I'm trying to make each post a little more specific, instead of just dumping all the stuff I've yet to post on here up in one go, so I'm going to be chronological). Tapes 'n tapes at the Troubador last-last-last Saturday.. taken with the little point and shoot, and just a few, because mediocre camera+poor lighting+amazing show=me too busy just watching and enjoying.

back in the saddle

Okay, so (okay, so ho many of my post start with "okay, so..."? need to get a new intro apparently) I kind of quit the internet for two weeks with no notice...which I feel like was a really irresponsible thing to do, because well, before I left this little chunk of the interwebs was being visited a lot, and by people who don't know that I'm standoffish and flighty and will decide to cut almost all communications for an indefinite period of time just for the hell of it. But I was in California, which was fun for the most part, saw a lot of people who don't read this so I'm not even going to bother with names, and had a good time which I'll recount bits and pieces of later. Right now I'm having an epic layover at seatac airport. It looks like this:

(un)reality

So here's another comic. Kind of reminds me of the half-baked stuff I did when I was younger. In the sense that it's a catharsis-comic and also, it features some characters that are throwbacks to aimless unfinished doodles that if you didn't see them already, you're not going to. Oh, and I'm on etsy now, just the one comic for sale that's already on sale on the blog, but I'd been meaning to do it, and I wrote a much better product description there. So if you have an etsy, etsy-friend me. But back to the point:

as it's happening...

Okay, so typically I like to have some cohesion to what I post. But life is just happening, and sometimes you've got to run with it. case in point: if you're any slight variation on that known as "the darkroom geek" you know the amazing, trippy things that can happen mid-processing. This blew my mind:
a few minutes in light, photographed last night, when still wet

scanned this morning, dried

as you can see, a lot is lost in just a few hours. But the great thing is that it at least existed, and I have some artifact of what so caught my attention.

also, on the thread of what is happening, last night I got to go to a fantastic lecture by Joe Sacco, who just does excellent journalistic comics (seriously look this guy up) and I actually got to talk to him while he was signing my copy of Footnotes In Gaza. Which was rad. Because to get to have a brief discourse with someone who does something awesome within your medium, that's so rare and cool. So did I say anything utterly profound, tell him how seeing what he does and that he started out in comics doing mostly small autobio stuff like yours truly and now is like doing stuff with such meaning and impact on a global scale is really inspiring because it shows how your work can evolve? no. I got all quiet and when he asked me if I liked comics, just a simple "yeah".

so not all was lost, but not the best impression made.

speaking of, I'm now late for class. I need to set my clock to real time

just so you know

All orders placed for 11/10 from now on will have a different binding than any that were ordered prior to today. Don't worry, it's actually a little sturdier (stitched vs. staples) I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone ordering from now on that if you've seen a copy in person, the one you get will be ever so slightly different.

so if you haven't already, order it! at the very least it's always fun to get mail that's not bills or offers for charge cards with awful interest rates.

Oh, and happy March everyone!
